Zip.ca Online DVD Rental
Only Real
Canadian Online DVD Rental Option
Most of the big online DVD rental companies, namely NetFlix and Blockbuster, are
for the USA only. This is because of the business strategy for mail-order
DVD rentals is still so new. Zip.ca is effectively the only option for renting
DVDs online in Canada.
When you first go to Zip.ca's website, it may be a bit confusing because you a logo
for Zip.tv. Zip.tv is Zip.ca's sister website that is a kind of Canadian YouTube. You shouldn't be worried by it.
There are two big things to note with Zip.ca when compared to the American NetFlix
or Blockbuster Total Access.
The first item of note is that the prices are a little bit higher, depending on
the exchange rate. The "3 DVDs at a Time" plan costs $24.95 (ca) at Zip.ca.
This is very reasonably priced. The same
plan at NetFlix costs $16.99 (us). The reason for this may because of the
immensity of Canada. Canada is the world's 2nd largest country by landmass.
The second item is that for most of the plans, Zip.ca may charge you an extra $2.49
per DVD if you go over your allowed number of free shippings per month. This
is very unlikely but still is something that you need to be aware of.
